A little more than a week to go until the NFL’s biggest offseason event.
We’re barely a week away from the draft. The walls are closing in. Time is running short. If you’re still trying to make that perfect mock draft, you’ve still got a few days, but your opportunities to really nail it are dwindling.
Really, the work is done by now. It was mostly done weeks ago. Barring something very unexpected, the Packers (and every team in the NFL, for that matter) have all the information they need to make their picks for this year’s draft. And truly, for most teams, it’s not going to change all that much. The nature of NFL roster building is such that most rosters are essentially set right now. There won’t be that many surprises between now and Week 1. Even the impact rookies are basically known commodities at this point, even though some of them won’t emerge into prominent roles until well into the season.
But, as is the case with all hotly anticipated events, we’ve still got to wait. We’ve still got eight days to go until next Thursday, and then a whole day to wait beyond that — though sometimes I wish the draft started at 8 a.m.. That would be a lot more convenient for me, personally, and isn’t that what life is all about?
It’s going to be quite an event, once it’s here, but we’re going to have to hurry up and wait until then.
