With nine games in the books and their bye week behind them, it’s time to start the playoff push.
Move over, Jim Mora. We’re talking playoffs.
Fresh off their bye week and with the Chicago Bears in their sights, the Packers may not be thinking playoffs yet, but they should be. They’ve had nine weeks to get their affairs in order, a week to sort out what ails them, and now it’s time to begin the playoff push in earnest.
The Packers only have three losses on the season, but each of them has been crucial to the playoff picture. Dropping games against the Eagles, Vikings, and Lions not only put the Packers behind in their divisional race, but also gave them a key head to head loss against a team that could be vying for another wildcard spot. If you were going to pick three games to lose for maximum playoff impact, those would have been the ones so far.
But the Packers still have everything in front of them. A 4-4 record the rest of the way gets the Packers to 10-7, which is probably good enough for a playoff spot, and I don’t think anybody thinks the Packers will be merely .500 in the second half.
Still, with an NFC North title probably out of reach already, the Packers will very likely be headed on the road for their first playoff game. Where they end up is yet to be determined, but the Packers are, to an extent, still very much in control of their own destiny.
