The 2024-2025 NFL season is officially over after the Philadelphia Eagles crowned themselves Super Bowl champions over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Packers knocked themselves out of contention for the Lombardi Trophy against the Eagles but allowed the least points of any matchup they had in the playoffs. The last time Green Bay met the Eagles in the playoffs, the Lombardi Trophy was brought back home by some of the greatest players the franchise has ever witnessed put on a green and gold uniform. Let’s take a step back in the history books and look at the top ten Green Bay Packers players in NFL history.
Top Ten Green Bay Packers Players Of All Time
10. Donald Driver, WR
Driver was one of the more exceptional players for the Packers in the 2000s, making four Pro Bowls, eclipsing 1,000 receiving yards in seven seasons, and winning Super Bowl XVI. There was doubt that the receiver out of Alcorn State would amount to anything at the time of his selection in the seventh round of the 1999 NFL Draft. But when you are the franchise leader in receptions and receiving yards, you automatically make a case as one of the best players in team history.
9. Jim Taylor, RB
Taylor was an extremely decorated player for the Packers in his eight-year career. He was the 1962 NFL MVP, a five-time Pro Bowler, five-time NFL champion, and is the long time leader in rushing touchdowns for Green Bay. Taylor is also part of the 1960s All-Decade Team and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1976, just a decade after his retirement. He definitely has a solidified spot in the top ten.
8. Ray Nitschke, LB
At number eight, we have another product of the Lombardi era. Nitschke earned three All-Pro selections and the 1962 NFL Championship Game MVP as the driving force of the Packers championship-winning defense and was the sole reason that a 4-3 formation worked in their favor.
7. Sterling Sharpe, WR
Sharpe recently earned induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, and for good reason. Although Sharpe only played seven years for Titletown, his impact on the game of football was immense before suffering a neck injury later in his career. With five Pro Bowls, three All-Pro honors, and a fourth place finish in MVP voting in 1992, the all-time great makes a case as the best wide receiver to play for the Green Bay Packers.
6. Reggie White, DE
This one is self-explanatory. White was an absolute monster in his numbered days with the Packers. White was a Pro Bowl selection in each of the six years he spent in Green Bay and helped the Packers defeat the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXI with three sacks to set a Super Bowl record. To add icing to the cake, he is also the all-time sack leader in NFL history. Leaving him off of this list would be a disservice.
5. Forrest Gregg, OL
Gregg is one of the most dominant offensive linemen in NFL history and it was clear to Lombardi who said he was one of the best players he had ever coached. When an all-time great coach talks about a particular player in that manner, it is for a very plausible reason. Gregg was a nine-time Pro Bowler, eight-time All-Pro, and won three Super Bowls in his career, including the first two with Green Bay.
4. Don Hutson, WR
There is a reason for the large number of Lombardi-coached players on this list. Hudson was so good that he revolutionized the pass game and paved the way for the sport to become heavily influenced by throwing and catching. Hudson was the first wide receiver to reach 1,000 yards in a season, a two-time MVP, a three-time champion, and an eight-time All-Pro who ultimately made the game much more complex.
3. Bart Starr, QB
Starr led the Packers to win three NFL championships and the first two Super Bowls. He is a two-time Super Bowl MVP, one-time NFL MVP, and was the focal point of one of the most iconic plays in NFL history with the QB sneak in the Ice Bowl. As accomplished as Starr is, he does not get the number one spot because the game has evolved and players get better as the game evolves.
2. Brett Favre, QB
Favre was the beginning of a new era for the Green Bay Packers. After decades of losing since the Lombardi era, Favre brought the winning culture back to Lambeau as he led the Packers to 13 consecutive winning seasons as the starter. He won three consecutive NFL MVP awards while leading the Packers to back-to-back Super Bowls.
1. Aaron Rodgers, QB
The greatest Green Bay Packers player of all time has to be a player who is talented, consistent, and impactful to the game of football. Rodgers was all of those things.
Rodgers is one of the most talented throwers the 21st century has ever seen while also being one of the most consistent. The four-time NFL MVP and Super Bowl champion had playmaking abilities that were otherworldly and unmatched accuracy. His impact on the game was one of a kind as a Packer.
