Tonight’s game should be a good one between rivals fighting for the lead in their division.
Fans of good matchups on a weeknight can rejoice this evening, as Thursday Night Football has one of its best games of the season tonight. Facing off are two of the best teams in the NFC with a division lead on the line, which should make for compelling viewing.
The Eagles host the Commanders tonight, with control of the NFC East on the line. The two teams are separated by just a half-game in the standings and are tied in the win column, meaning tonight’s game will give the winner a big leg up for the division title with another head-to-head matchup yet to play later this season.
The Commanders have been a surprise this season, jumping out to records of 4-1 and 7-2 before losing a nail-biter to the Pittsburgh Steelers last week to fall to 7-3. Washington has an especially late bye this year — not until week 14 — but they will face the Eagles in the rematch of tonight’s game in week 16.
Jayden Daniels, the #2 pick in this year’s NFL Draft, has been the best rookie quarterback so far this season, making plays both with his arm and his legs. Daniels has the Commanders ranked as a top-five offense in yards, points, and third down conversion rate, a huge improvement from a year ago when the Commanders were one of the worst offenses in football.
Meanwhile, the Eagles had an especially early bye in week 5, but have turned things around after a 2-2 start. Since the bye, Philadelphia has gone 5-0, though most of the teams they have played in that stretch are not serious playoff contenders in 2024. Still, They have scored at least 20 points in the last five games and at least 28 in each of the last four, a sign that their offense is clicking again after a rough patch in the first month of this season.
