Maybe he shouldn’t have criticized his teammates, but Jacobs was correct.
As far as offseason controversies go, Josh Jacobs’ remarks this week are relatively tame. There are many, many other things an NFL player could do to end up in the crosshairs of fans, his teammates, and the media that are much worse than what he said.
You never want to publicly criticize your teammates if you don’t have to, and Jacobs definitely stepped in it to an extent. But whether or not the Packers’ wide receivers agree with his remarks, Jacobs has one big thing on his side.
He happens to be right.
The Packers lost to the Eagles in the playoffs — and the regular season, for that matter — because they simply were not as talented as the team they faced in Philadelphia. They came third in the NFC North for the same reason: the Lions and Vikings were better teams with better players. Accordingly, the Packers need to add talent to compete.
The Packers need to add a piece to their pass rush, and probably more than one since they need to fill out their edge rusher rotation and their interior defensive line.
The Packers need help at cornerback and could probably use another body somewhere on the interior offensive line.
And yes, the Packers need to add a wide receiver. Christian Watson is going to be on the sideline for most, if not all, of 2025. Romeo Doubs is in a contract year, and Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks hit the end of their rookie deals in 2026. If only for depth chart reasons, the Packers need to add some depth to their group. And to Jacobs’ more specific point, yes, they could use a more dangerous down-in, down-out weapon at the spot.
Sure, it may not have been the wisest choice to say anything that could be perceived as a shot at his teammates. Whatever criticism Jacobs is getting for that is probably warranted. But appropriate or not, Jacobs made a good read on the state of the Packers roster.
