Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst confirmed that they’re working to extend Jordan Love’s contract.
Before he replaced Aaron Rodgers last season, the Packers gave Love a one-year, $13.5 million deal for 2024 instead of exercising a fifth-year option. The quarterback answered any doubts over his status as a viable long-term starter during a breakout year.
During a Tuesday radio interview on 97.3 The Game, Gutekunst told Brian Butch and Steve Czaban that everyone is motivated to reach a new deal soon.
“We’re in those conversations right now,” Gutekunst said. “I think the nice part about this is none of these things are always easy or fast, but both parties want the same thing. We’d like to get this done before training camp, for sure.”
The Packers announced Monday that training camp will start on July 22. That leaves them approximately seven weeks to negotiate a new contract for Love.
Gutekunst explained the importance of locking down Green Bay’s starting quarterback, who amassed 4,159 yards and 32 touchdowns in 2023.
“I think that stability at that position really allows you to have some security with the way we build our team,” Gutekunst said. “We’re looking forward to getting that done, but it never goes fast.”
Love notably closed the season strong, accumulating 18 touchdowns and one interception over the final eight regular-season games. He then led the Packers to a road playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys by completing 16 of 21 passes for 272 yards and three touchdowns.
Two weeks ago, Love sidestepped questions about whether he’d play the 2024 season without a long-term deal. But despite ongoing contract talks, the 25-year-old has participated in voluntary offseason team activities.
