Christian Watson (knee) is already listed as questionable at the position
On Saturday, the Green Bay Packers added wide receiver Romeo Doubs to the injury report with an illness, which apparently struck Doubs since the Packers wrapped up practice on Friday. Prior to the announcement, Doubs had been a full participant in practice all week. The illness that Doubs is battling has yet to be reported on.
Losing Doubs against the Chicago Bears on Sunday would be interesting. The Packers struggled against the Minnesota Vikings’ man coverage without receiver Christian Watson, who was out with a knee bruise. Watson is currently listed as questionable with the team after practicing on Friday, but missing Thursday’s action.
Behind Watson, Doubs is the second most important man coverage threat that the Packers have been able to use over the last two seasons. If both Watson and Doubs are out, this leaves Green Bay with just Jayden Reed, who averages a full yard less per route run versus man coverage compared to zone coverage, and Dontayvion Wicks, who has struggled to catch the ball this season, as the only two receivers available from the Packers’ core four-man rotation.
If the Bears try to replicate the Vikings’ gameplan tomorrow and these receivers are both out, it could be a bit of a problem for Green Bay.
The Packers are still fighting to avoid the seventh seed in the NFC, despite their 11-5 record. To ensure that they don’t play the number two seed in the conference on the road, they’ll not only have to win against the Bears tomorrow but the Washington Commanders will have to drop to the Dallas Cowboys, who are planning on playing both Cooper Rush and former first-round pick Trey Lance at quarterback this week.
