The Green Bay Packers will be taking on the Minnesota Vikings this weekend but without the services of a noteworthy defender.
On Wednesday, the Packers announced that they have moved reserve cornerback Jaire Alexander to their reserve/suspended list. In a statement, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst explained that it was for “conduct detrimental to the team” stemming from “actions prior to the game against Carolina.”
“The decision to suspend a player is never easy and not one we take lightly. Unfortunately, Jaire’s actions prior to the game in Carolina led us to take this step,” Gutekunst said. “As an organization, we have an expectation that everyone puts the team first. While we are disappointed, we had a good conversation with Jaire this morning and fully expect him to learn from this as we move forward together. We look forward to welcoming him back next week as he is a valued member of this team and will continue to be in the future.”
The “actions” in question were Alexander effectively crashing the opening coin toss despite not being designated as a captain and nearly costing the team the chance to get the ball on the opening kickoff.

Jaire Alexander has been having a down year despite earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors in 2022. He’s started just six games and has 26 tackles, four passes defended and one forced fumble on the season.
Will Alexander learn from his mistake?
