The Packers hosted the Ravens in a joint practice held Thursday, August 22nd. After an underwhelming and flat performance against the Broncos in both joint practice and the preseason matchup, the Packers bounced back and had a successful day against Baltimore.
After throwing an early interception to Roquan Smith, Jordan Love ignited the Packers offense in the redzone. Love completed 6 of 7 passes in the redzone for 42 yards and 4 touchdowns. The touchdowns were hauled in by Tucker Kraft, Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs (2).
While the newly paid quarterback seemed to lead the way, nothing was possible without the elite protection he received from his offensive line. A line that consisted of Elgton Jenkins, Rasheed Walker, Josh Myers, Sean Rhyan, and Zach Tom allowed Love to remain calm and comfortable as he stated “I felt good back there all day. Shoutout to the o-line.”
While the offense had a stellar day, the defense arguably had an even better day as they made Lamar Jackson extremely uncomfortable. Of course, Rashan Gary made noise along with Devonte Wyatt, T.J. Slaton and even Preston Smith. The defense made so much noise that the Ravens committed several false start penalties. Cornerback Keisean Nixon stated, “We know we got dogs up front and we finally get to unleash them.”
While discussing the highlights of the day it is hard to overlook the continued success that rookie safety Evan Williams has had. The 4th rounder snagged an interception against the Ravens backup quarterback on Thursday. The Oregon product has five total interceptions in camp.
It has been quite some time since every unit has performed well on the same day, but even special teams found success against the Ravens. The recent kicking competition the Packers have held may be over as Anders Carlson was perfect on the day. The second-year kicker went 5 for 5 and was able to knock one through the uprights from 51 yards out.
The end of preseason is approaching, and with a promising ending to camp the Packers will be hopeful to remain consistent as the regular season is right around the corner.
