riday’s un-padded practice lasted 1 hour and 37 minutes. Both Hodkiewicz and Herman wrote that Saturday’s practice will be in pads.
NOT PRACTICING:
Caleb Jones and OT Donovan Jennings came off the PUP list and returned to practice, but none of them did more than individual drills. Corey Ballentine came off the PUP list and practiced with the 2s. Jayden Reed and Tyler Davis also participated in more than just individual drills on the sidelines. Jordan Love is still not practicing due to his contract hold-in. Marshawn Lloyd, Tucker Kraft, and Olapado remain out.
LaFleur said it’s going to be “a while” before they put Zach Tom in 11-on-11. “If everything goes right, it won’t be until after Family Night” Hodkiewicz
Robert Rochell is out with a calf today per Packers PR. Only new injury. Herman
PERSONNEL:
Josh Myers will be ok from an injury standpoint but has a personal day today and will not be at practice. Herman
In walk-throughs it is Anthony Johnson Jr. with the ones at safety next to McKinney today. Offensive line is Walker – Rhyan – Jenkins – Morgan – Tom. Herman
Starters in team: Offense} Clifford Jacobs Watson – Reed – Doubs, Musgrave, Walker – Rhyan – Jenkins – Morgan – Telfort
[Defense] Smith – Wyatt – Clark – Gary Quay – Cooper – Jaire – Nixon – Stokes -McKinney – AJJ. Herman [So, Doubs for Wicks, Jenkins for Myers due to absence, Cooper over McDuffie but McDuffie was next to Quay Walker when they were in nickel, and AJ Johnson getting the nod opposite McKinny as the coaches continue to rotate safeties. TGR]
Corey Ballentine is back practicing. He’s in the slot with the 2’s. 2) I mentioned yesterday that the slot group has its own position group. It was Nixon and Kalen King yesterday and now Ballentine joins them today. Also former DB coach Jeff Hafley working directly with them. Herman
It’s early, but the CB2 battle between Stokes and Valentine is shaping up to be a highly competitive one. Bretl
OFFENSE:
Tyler Davis with a nice block that springs Emanuel Wilson for a big gain down the right side. Wilson set up the play well. He’s had a really nice start. Herman [That’s Davis’ second huge block to spring a big rushing gain. Don’t count Davis out for making the 53. TGR}
Michael Pratt has been solid throwing at the net off PA through first four practices. Hodkiewicz
DEFENSE:
Preston Smith just went right through Rasheed Walker for a pressure and possible sack. 2) Ty’Ron Hopper with his daily stop at or behind the LOS on a run play. Herman [I omitted Hoppers previous run stops because they came on the 2s, like this one. Now that he’s done it several days in a row, time to mention it. TGR] 3) Rashan Gary starts red zone period with two straight sacks vs Telfort. He’s been a man on a mission.
Colby Wooden & Brenton Cox combine for a big time tackle for loss on Wilson. 2) Gary goes right through Telfort again but Clifford gets the ball off to Jacobs in time. Defense all over it again. 3) Sean Clifford tries the elongated play action bootleg which Enagbare was all over for a potential sack but Clifford throws anyway and McKinney picks it and houses it. [For those counting, that is at least 2 sacks allowed by the offensive line: 1 on Walker by Preston, one on Telford by Gary plus a pressure, and a pressure by Enagbare and a TFL against an unknown lineman. TGR]
Hodkiewicz wrote: “Jacobs scored off a read option to end the drill and practice,” but Herman replied to that tweet by writing: Pretty sure LVN and Brooks would have stopped this for a 3 yard loss but the offense didn’t score a td in red zone all day and needed something positive so… td Jacobs.
Xavier McKinney with his first pick of camp. Undercuts Sean Clifford’s throw to Ben Simms in the right flat at the goal line, and that would’ve been a pick 6 the other way. Wood [This is the same play noted above about the boot leg and Enagbare’s pressure.
Keisean Nixon with a snap at outside corner with the 2’s with Kalen King in the slot. 2) Carrington Valentine does a great job fighting through traffic to stop Watson short of the goal line in red zone. Looked like a completion to Musgrave the play prior was also inches short. Defense doesn’t allow a touchdown in the red zone period. Herman
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Punt returners: Keisean Nixon, Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dimitri Stanley. Herman
Anders Carlson’s perfect streak to open camp comes to an end. After making kicks from 45L and 47R, he clanks a 50 yarder off the left upright. Plenty of leg to get there, just a couple inches wide. Still an impressive 11-of-12 to open camp. We’ll see how he responds to the miss. Wood
KENNY CLARK’S CONTRACT DETAILS:
Clark gets $29M in cash in 2024 and his cap hit is reduced by $1.125M. It is still $26.365M, so since the Packers didn’t make a big reduction like they could have, they must know/think that they have enough cap space to extend Jordan Love.
As I guessed, Clark earns $10.5M in cash in 2025 and clocks in with a $20.365M cap number, about what I guessed was the goal. That makes it a 2-year, $39M deal with $17.007M dead. Since Clark is due to get $21.5M in cash for 2026 and have a $31.365M cap number, his cap saving if cut prior to the 2026 season would be $14.385M. Remember, the cap might be as much as $315M for the 2026 season, so a $31M cap number might look differently then. Still, Clark will have to play well.
