The Green Bay Packers had a sudden, surprising injury occur this week with star safety Jaire Alexander suffering a freak ankle injury in practice. After listing him as questionable on Friday, they’re getting some insurance for Sunday’s playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys.
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, the Packers are elevating cornerback David Long Jr. from their practice squad to the active roster. Long has played in 14 games this season for three different teams, with three games coming for the Packers.
“With Jaire Alexander hurting his ankle in practice and not working out the final two days of the practice week, the #Packers have elevated CB David Long Jr from the practice squad. Alexander is listed as questionable,” Rapoport wrote.
While long does have 19 tackles and two starts on the season, he has yet to register any tackles with the Packers in his three appearances for them.

Jaire Alexander made the Pro Bowl and All-Pro teams in two of the last four seasons, but was limited to just seven games this season due to injuries and a suspension.
Alexander started the season finale against the Chicago Bears, registering two tackles and one pass defended.
Will the Packers need Long’s services against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday or will Alexander be good to go?
