The Green Bay Packers will have an important assistant coach to replace on Jeff Hafley’s staff entering the 2025 season. Linebackers coach and run game coordinator Anthony Campanile has agreed to become the next defensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Liam Coen’s new staff, per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media.
Campanile, 42, spent one season in Green Bay. He helped create a breakout season from second-round pick Edgerrin Cooper and drove improvement from third-year linebacker Quay Walker while also leading a run defense that was one of the NFL’s best in 2024.
The Packers finished in the top 10 for yards per carry (4.0, 3rd), rushing yards (1,689, 7th) and rushing touchdowns (13, 10th).
Campanile was previously the linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins for four seasons (2020-23) before joining Hafley and the Packers in 2024. This will be his first defensive coordinator job at the NFL level.
In Jacksonville, Campanile will be tasked with improving a defense that finished 27th in points allowed and 31st in yards allowed per game last season.
Defensive assistant Sean Duggan could be the top internal candidate to replace Campanile. He coached linebackers at Boston College under Hafley.
Wendel Davis, a quality control coach on staff for the Packers, also has past experience as a linebackers coach at the collegiate level. It’s unclear if Matt LaFleur wants to search for an experienced option to replace Campanile or if he’ll look inward for the new linebackers coach. The Packers must also find a run game coordinator, so an experienced option might be preferable.
