Give Nixon the assistant GM title
According to NFL rules, club coaches and front office members cannot have conversations with other teams’ players. When the Atlanta Falcons talked to quarterback Kirk Cousins before he officially became a free agent last offseason, it cost them a fifth-round pick.
But there’s nothing barring players from talking to other players, even openly.
Green Bay Packers cornerback Keisean Nixon might as well have earned himself an assistant general manager title on Tuesday after his string of tweets.
First, he responded to a post claiming that Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby, Nixon’s former teammate, would be a good fit for the Packers with: “@CrosbyMaxx Come Be Great Wit A Real Team My Boi…”
Eight minutes later, Nixon tweeted at Davante Adams, the former Packer receiver. Nixon and Adams had been teammates in Las Vegas, where Adams was traded after his stint in Green Bay. Nixon told Adams to “pull bac[k] up.”

So even though Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks made their voices heard when running back Josh Jacobs openly recruited Davante Adams during Super Bowl week, it doesn’t look like the Packers’ players’ pursuit of free agents is stopping anytime soon. With free agency and the new league year only a month away, expect to hear more recruiting as we near deadlines.
