The third known interview in the Green Bay Packers’ search for a new defensive line coach is former Chicago Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington, according to Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports.
The Packers are looking for a new defensive line coach after firing Jason Rebrovich. Other reported interviews for the job include New York Jets defensive line coach Aaron Whitecotton and Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line coach Kacy Rodgers, two other experienced line coaches.
Washington is no different — he has been a defensive line coach at the NFL level for over a decade between three teams and has twice been a defensive coordinator, including during the 2024 season for the Bears.
Washington has previously coached the defensive line at Northwestern (2004-07), Bears (2010), Carolina Panthers (2011-17) and Buffalo Bills (2020-23). He was the defensive coordinator for the Panthers between 2018 and 2019, and he called defensive plays for the Bears after Matt Eberflus was fired midseason this year.
Washington began his coaching career at the NFL level with the Bears in 2008. He was on staff for several excellent defenses in Chicago, Buffalo and Carolina.
