Alexander was questionable entering Sunday
The Green Bay Packers announced at halftime against the Chicago Bears that cornerback Jaire Alexander (knee) was questionable to play for the remainder of the game. During the television broadcast, though, FOX’s crew said that head coach Matt LaFleur told the production crew that Alexander was unlikely to return to the field for the rest of the game.
Officially, the Packers finally ruled Alexander out right when the team took a one-point lead over the Bears in the third quarter. Alexander has been battling a knee injury that kept him sidelined for Green Bay’s game against the Detroit Lions two weeks ago. Despite having the benefit of a bye week, Alexander was listed as questionable by the Packers on Friday during their last injury report of the week.
Green Bay actually chose to promote cornerback Robert Rochell to the active roster this weekend when they placed first-round rookie Jordan Morgan (shoulder) on the injured reserve, but Rochell was a healthy scratch when the team announced their inactives earlier today.
Without Alexander, the Packers are down to just Keisean Nixon, Carrington Valentine, Eric Stokes and Corey Ballentine at the position. Nixon and Valentine are currently playing outside cornerback at a high clip, combining for 51 total snaps played at the position in the first half. For perspective, Alexander played 10 and Stokes and Ballentine combined to play 4. Typically, Stokes has played over Valentine as an outside cornerback, whenever Nixon is playing outside cornerback and Alexander has been out of the lineup.
