The glorious training camp the Green Bay Packers have been having finally hit a little speed bump in the Packers visit to the Mile High City. While it’s only the preseason and it was backups against starters, it was nonetheless a dreadful performance. Especially after last week’s performance in Cleveland.
Head coach Matt LaFleur was not very happy and said he would take a long hard look and everyone and everything. It was that kind of week in Denver. Jordan Love and the Packers’ starters were shut down in the two teams joint practice last Friday so it wasn’t just the backups that got beat up.
This is a Broncos’ defense that gave up 70 points to the Dolphins early last but rebounded to be one of the league’s best by season’s end. They shut down the Packers last year in the Packers 19-17 loss in Denver. I’m sure the Packers will be more than happy to not see that city again for a long time.
I’m not too concerned about the backup quarterback situation yet. I think Sean Clifford will win the job but he better look a lot better in the preseaon finale Saturday in Lambeau. Michael Pratt hasn’t shown enough in the games to think they can’t keep him on the practice squad. The depth on offensive line is what is concerning. They are the guys protecting the franchise and the second team has not looked all that great thus far.
This is a big week for a lot of guys so the practice and game should be intense. And then we have to wait two weeks for the opener. So stupid.
