The Green Bay Packers got an offensive tackle and an edge rusher in the first two rounds of Matt Miller’s post-Shrine and Senior Bowl mock draft at ESPN posted Monday (subscription required).
In the first round, Miller sent Oregon tackle Josh Conerly Jr. — a standout at the Senior Bowl — to the Packers at No. 23. In the second round, Texas A&M edge rusher Nic Scourton was the pick at No. 54.
The selections would give the Packers an infusion of young talent along the line of scrimmage entering 2025.
According to PFF, Conerly allowed only one sack and nine total pressures across 521 pass-blocking snaps as the left tackle for Oregon in 2024. He started each of the last two seasons (28 games) at left tackle.
Miller on giving Conerly to the Packers: “Left tackle Rasheed Walker has exceeded expectations, considering he was a seventh-round choice in 2022, but he’s also set to be a free agent after next season. The Packers love to invest first-round picks in the trenches, and they can pluck one of my favorite tackles off the board to be their future on the blind side. Conerly was a high school running back until outgrowing the position. Despite still adding play power to his frame in 2024, he had his best season yet, allowing only one sack and seven pressures in the Big Ten. Getting Conerly at No. 23 would be great value for Green Bay, and the need matches up, too.”
Conerly was voted the top offensive lineman on the National roster at the Senior Bowl.
The question would be where Conerly fits long-term, but as Miller notes, Rasheed Walker — the starter at left tackle the last two seasons — is entering a contract year in 2025. Adding a first-round tackle could give the Packers flexibility in terms of Walker’s future and Zach Tom’s position.
In the second round, the Packers got a young, talented edge rusher to add to the mix at a position group that underwhelmed in 2024.
Miller on giving Scourton to the Packers: “Green Bay loves to pick players with top-level traits from Power 4 schools. And the 6-foot-4, 285-pound Scourton has 15 sacks over the past two seasons and is extremely young; he doesn’t turn 21 until August.”
Scourton, a Purdue transfer, produced 36 pressures over 12 games in 2024. His pass-rush win rate was 17.4 percent, per PFF. He also has terrific size (listed at 6-4, 285) and edge-setting ability in the run game. Some have Scourton as a borderline first-round talent in this draft class.
The Packers need to add a jolt to the pass-rush in 2025. Green Bay found a new defensive line coach in DeMarcus Covington, and adding a talent like Scourton could provide another developmental option behind first-round picks Rashan Gary and Lukas Van Ness.
