It’s no secret that Green Bay Packers kicker Anders Carlson struggled down the stretch.
He missed at least one kick in 10 of the Packers’ final 12 games and also missed a 41-yard field goal in the fourth quarter of the Packers’ divisional round game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Had he made it, it would’ve extended the Packers’ lead to seven but instead, it led to the 49ers scoring on the ensuing drive before winning by three, 24-21.
Even though Carlson struggled for a lot of this season, Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst isn’t ready to give up on him just yet.
“I think as we got towards the end of the season and we were headed towards the playoffs and had an opportunity to be in the playoffs, certainly something, if there was a veteran option out there that would have been really good, then maybe we would have considered it. But there wasn’t. He was the best option by far. We’re really excited about where he’s going,” Gutekunst said, (first transcribed by ProFootballTalk).
Gutekunst will have to hope that his optimism pays off heading into the next season because if Carlson struggles again, it won’t be long until he has to sign a new kicker.
