We interrupt this NFL Draft season to make room for a period that can be just as exciting if not more so – NFL Free Agency! On Monday at 11AM Central, the legal tampering period will begin in the NFL. This is a time where teams are permitted to talk with player agents and come to agreements on contracts. The 2025-2026 Green Bay Packers will finally begin to take shape!
There will be a ton of news just breaking during this time before the NFL new league year begins at 3PM on Wednesday, which is the official start to the free agency period. Here are a few things to look out for heading into this free agency period:
The Packers Have Needs
The Green Bay Packers and their General Manager Brian Gutekunst finally participate in free agency! This is a new normal for the Packers. Under Ted Thompson, the Packers rarely participated in free agency. Don’t get me wrong, Gutekunst doesn’t go crazy by any means. He uses free agency as a tool to fix any misses from prior NFL Drafts.
So, at what positions do the Packers have need? The top positional needs for the Packers are interior defensive line, edge, cornerback, and wide receiver. These aren’t in any particular order and offensive line can be considered an honorable mention.
Rumored to Be Targets of the Packers

The Packers, as Gutey likes to say, are “in every conversation”, but the Green and Gold have been rumored to be targeting a few different guys with one being very familiar to the Packers.
Dayo Odeyingbo– Odeyingbo is an interior defensive lineman who is mostly a 3-tech for the Colts. He can create all kinds of havoc on the interior on the defensive line.
DK Metcalf- As of this writing the Seattle Seahawks wide receiver hasn’t been traded to any teams quite yet, but his quarterback has. It seems like the Seahawks are having quite the sale and Metcalf is up for grabs. The Packers have been a part of a couple of different rumors about acquiring the athletic marvel at wideout.
Davante Adams- This has been rumored from the moment the Jets decided to move on from Aaron Rodgers. According to sportsbook.draftkings, the Packers have the best chances of landing their former wide receiver at a +240. Only time will tell but having Adams back in the receiver room can only bring good things. Especially to Green Bay’s young wide receivers.
The NFL Will Be Going Crazy
The Packers of course aren’t going to be acquiring all of the players. Don’t get me wrong, I would be a happy guy if somehow Green Bay was able to get Myles Garrett, DK Metcalf, Dayo Odeyingbo, and a top available corner like Byron Murphy, but that just isn’t going to happen.
So, there are a lot of transactions that will take place that won’t directly affect the Packers, but could indirectly affect them.
Like here is a big one: what happens to Aaron Rodgers? Now that it seems more and more likely that Sam Darnold will not be returning to the Vikings and Daniel Jones wants a chance to start, the Vikings may want to sign their former rival to be a bridge quarterback for JJ McCarthy, thus completing the prophecy. I say, “Bring it!”
It would bring me nothing but happiness to see the Vikings sign an aging Rodgers, go 8-9, lose to the Packers twice, and beat the Bears twice (because you know Rodgers owns the Bears). You know what, I think Bears fans will have more to fear than Packers fans. Just saying.
Player I’m Realistically Hoping For the Most

With Jaire Alexander seemingly not going to be on the team (which is another thing to watch for), it’ll be important for the Packers sign a veteran cornerback. Can I interest you in a Paulson Adebo? As mentioned here, Adebo fits the Packers mold perfectly. The Saints have absolutely no way of resigning the ascending corner because of their absolutely atrocious cap situation. And because of a terrible femur injury back in October, Adebo could be kinda affordable.
In this Jeff Hafley defense, Paulson Adebo will fit right in.
Of course, even if the Packers sign a corner like Adebo or any player for that matter, it should never affect their draft board. Matter of fact, that’s why Gutekunst uses free agency the way that he does. He doesn’t want to be locked-in on players due to need. He wants BAP. Best Available Player.
And so should you! Back to the NFL Draft next week!
And as always,
Go Pack Go!
