We’ll be providing live score updates, highlights, and injury news for Packers vs. 49ers right here throughout the game.
The San Francisco 49ers were short-handed coming into this game against the Green Bay Packers, but few expected a 28-point Packers victory where San Francisco running back Christian McCaffrey was held to just 31 yards. With that being said, playing a 49ers team without quarterback Brock Purdy (shoulder), left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) or defensive end Nick Bosa (hip, obliques) obviously comes with a caveat.
Despite quarterback Jordan Love completing just 13 passes on the day, the Packers pulled away 38-10 versus the banged-up 49ers. San Francisco ran for a combined 44 yards on the ground, while Green Bay posted 169. Josh Jacobs, who ran 26 times for 106 yards and three touchdowns, is the first player in 55 games to have a 100-yard rushing game against the 49ers. According to the broadcast of the game, that was the longest streak in the NFL since at least 1955.
Receiver Romeo Doubs bailed the Packers out on three separate third downs on a scoring drive before eventually exiting the game with a concussion. So far, that is the only significant injury reported from the game.
Defensively, Green Bay recorded three turnovers: two recovered fumbles (out of five the 49ers lost grip of today) and yet another Xavier McKinney interception. The Packers’ pass rush, which saw Colby Wooden starting for the first time at defensive end, had one of its better showings of the season.
If you’d like the full drive-by-drive breakdown of the game, you can find that below.
Pre-Game
Reports claimed that left tackle Trent Williams’ status was going to be a game-time decision, ultimately coming down to his pre-game workout. Apparently, that didn’t go well for Williams, as he was ruled out when the 49ers announced their inactivies on Sunday.
First Half
Drive 1 – Packers Offense: The 49ers lost the coin toss, so the Packers chose to receive the ball. The kickoff went short, away from primary returner Keisean Nixon, so cornerback Corey Ballentine was able to take it to the 33-yard-line for the offense’s opening drive. An 18-yard Josh Jacobs carry got the ball over midfield, as Green Bay called five straight runs or RPOs after opening the drive with a dropback pass — including several two-back looks. 49ers starting cornerback Deommodore Lenoir went down with an injury in the red zone, but he was able to walk under his own power. Ultimately, the drive ended on a Jordan Love touchdown pass to tight end Tucker Kraft, a designed screen opposite of a quick game concept. Packers 7-0

Drive 2 – Packers Defense: Green Bay made the shocking decision to start Colby Wooden, who has spent his two years with the Packers as a defensive tackle, at defensive end. Last week, Kingsley Enagbare got the start over former first-round pick Lukas Van Ness following the trade of Preston Smith. San Francisco went three and out with the help of a second down penalty that turned a second and one into a second and six. Rashan Gary was credited for a third-down sack where Brandon Allen lost control of the ball before Gary and a blitzing Quay Walker met at the quarterback.
Drive 3 – Packers Offense: Green Bay was able to move the ball 49 yards, mostly due to the strength of their run game, before their offense sputtered at the 32-yard line. There, Love had two straight incompletions, the first on second down as the ball was a little out of reach for Jacobs and then on third down when San Francisco sent a blitz that wasn’t fully picked up. Kicker Brandon McManus snuck in a 51-yard field goal inside the right upright. Packers 10-0
Drive 4 – Packers Defense: The announcers explained that Brandon Allen has a broken finger on his left hand, which could have contributed to him fumbling before contact on the 49ers’ opening drive. Lukas Van Ness displaced Colby Wooden as the “starter” on this drive. San Francisco had all of eight yards in the first quarter, which ended after the opening play of the 49ers’ drive. On second and 15, with help from a first-down holding penalty from San Francisco, Quay Walker dropped an interception that hit both of his hands and his facemask. Allen checked the ball down to tight end George Kittle on third down, setting up a fourth and seven punt.
Drive 5 – Packers Offense: A false start from right guard Sean Rhyan set the Packers back to third and 11. Jordan Love was able to find receiver Romeo Doubs on a dig route that wound up going for 29 yards, extending the drive…this was the first of three third downs that were converted on Love to Doubs passes. In the red zone, Love was able to catch the 49ers with 12 men on the field as former Packers linebacker De’Vondre Campbell was unable to get off quick enough. Love threw an interception on the play, but it clearly didn’t count — unfortunately Green Bay had an illegal shift on the play so the penalties were offset and the play was completely negated rather than giving the Packers a gain of five yards for the penalty. The 49ers did bail the Packers out after that penalty by throwing 12 men on the field the following play. You can’t make this up. Two Jacobs carries later and Green Bay had another touchdown. Packers 17-0
Drive 6 – Packers Defense: San Francisco fumbled on the kickoff but was able to cover it. The 49ers got their first first down conversion of the game. Good for them! It only took them 24 minutes of game clock! A flea flicker to Deebo Samuel brought San Francisco into the red zone for the first time today. On third and goal, Allen was able to find Kittle on a high-point touchdown. Packers 17-7
Drive 7 – Packers Offense: With only 1:02 on the clock, the Packers decided to run on first down, hurried to the line, ran again on second down and were able to get out of bounds across midfield quickly. It seems like they were trying to feel out if they could go for a true two-minute drill, considering the 49ers had two timeouts in their pocket. On the next play, Love found a wide-open Christian Watson who had a walk-in touchdown but dropped the ball. After two more deep incompletions, Green Bay chose to punt the ball for the first time today. The returner was tackled at the 25-yard line.

Drive 8 – Packers Defense: There were only four seconds left in the half when the 49ers’ offense returned to the field, so they kneeled out the half.
Second Half
Drive 9 – Packers Defense: Deebo Samuel returned the kickoff 87 yards, but it was brought back to the 21-yard line for a holding penalty. Consider this a dodged bullet. That would have completely flipped the game on its head. The 49ers were able to move the ball a bit, but safety Xavier McKinney broke up a pass intended for Christian McCaffrey on fourth down, turning the ball over on downs.
Drive 10 – Packers Offense: The Packers punted the ball away again after a near interception, off of the hands of Romeo Doubs, and a Jordan Love sack put Green Bay in a fourth and 10 situation.
Drive 11 – Packers Defense: San Francisco was driving down the field, off of the strength of a 31-yard grab from George Kittle, but the drive ended when Deebo Samuel was unable to come down with a high pass over the middle. That ball landed in the hands of future All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney, who returned the interception all the way to the 26-yard line.
Drive 12 – Packers Offense: Already on the warning stripe of the red zone, the Packers made a majority of their yardage this drive on a defensive pass interference penalty where Romeo Doubs was targeted. Doubs was slow to get off the field, but the following play Jacobs was able to punch in the ball for another Green Bay touchdown. Packers 24-7
Drive 13 – Packers Defense: San Francisco’s play-action game really caught on as the 49ers threw back-to-back explosives early on the drive. Kittle caught a back shoulder pass up the seam with McKinney in tight coverage on him. McKinney nearly had another interception on third down when a 49ers target slipped out of his break and the ball went between his hands. Kicker Jake Moodey hit a 48-yard field goal to make it a two-score game. Packers 24-10
Drive 14 – Packers Offense: Before the drive, the Packers officially announced that Doubs had been ruled out for the remainder of the game with a concussion. Based on how quick the turnaround is for Green Bay’s Thanksgiving game, it’s highly unlikely that Doubs will suit up against the Miami Dolphins. Running back Josh Jacobs (cramps) was also given a questionable to return status. On the opening play of the drive, Love should have been intercepted by the 49ers on a jump ball to Watson where Watson was out-positioned. Backup running back Chris Brooks was flagged for a personal foul on the next play for what Tom Brady called “an attempted trip.” A 15-yard gain on 4th and 25 put Daniel Whelan in a slightly better punting position.
Drive 15 – Packers Defense: Both offenses are sputtering now. The 49ers got all of negative one yard on their drive.
Drive 16 – Packers Offense: Josh Jacobs, who visited the locker room, returned to the game and cracked 100 rushing yards on the first play of the drive. According to the broadcast, this is the first time that the 49ers have allowed a 100-yard rusher in the last 55 games, which was the longest streak of any team since 1955. On third down, Jordan Love broke the pocket and fumbled on a sack, but he was able to recover it on the way down. Punt.

Drive 17 – Packers Defense: Kenny Clark jumped offsides, but Lukas Van Ness was able to force a Brandon Allen sack-fumble on first down. Clark jumped on the ball. This one is about over.
Sack. Fumble! @Packers ball!

Drive 18 – Packers Offense: A Tucker Kraft catch brought the ball to the one-yard line. Josh Jacobs scored his third touchdown of the game two plays later. Packers 31-10
Drive 19 – Packers Defense: Christian McCaffrey crossed the 50-yard line on the opening play of the drive, but Keisean Nixon was able to punch the ball out, forcing yet another turnover. Packers ball.
Drive 20 – Packers Offense: We can report that Dontayvion Wicks is alive. He caught a dig for his first reception of the day. It was good for 25 yards. Green Bay was able to bleed the clock successfully, with the help of a Jordan Love quarterback sneak that he lost grip of momentarily. Malik Heath caught a red zone fade touchdown. Big preseason hours. Packers 38-10
Drive 21 – Packers Defense: San Francisco was only able to get eight yards on four plays. Turnover on downs.
Drive 22 – Packers Offense: Malik Willis was brought in to play quarterback here. The Packers had a turnover on downs around the 30-yard line as they attempted to run as much clock as possible.
Drive 23 – Packers Defense: Backup running back Jordan Mason fumbled the ball, but it was covered by the 49ers. That was the last play of the game. 10/10, no notes.
