In honor of the Fourth of July, Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs spent time with the Milwaukee Fire Department to learn about proper grill safety.
According to the National Fire Protection Association, there are over 10,600 home fires caused by grills each year. That’s an eye-opening number.
As part of the Milwaukee Fire Department’s demonstration, they showed Jacobs what a controlled explosion looks like on a charcoal grill.
After witnessing that explosion, Jacobs is hoping everyone in the United States stays safe this Thursday when they’re using the grill.
“Normally when you’re grilling, at least in my family, the person on the grill is probably throwing back a couple beers while they’re cooking. You got kids running around the grill, you got so many things. It just takes one thing to go wrong for things to go really wrong,” Jacobs told Fox News Digital. “It can be weather, wind, just having the wrong things around the grill.
“Just knowing the facts and all the things I was taught today definitely opened my eyes to a lot of things when it comes to it.”
It truly does take just one thing to go wrong before disaster strikes. Hopefully, everyone takes the proper safety measures today.
As for Jacobs, he signed a four-year, $48 million deal with the Packers this offseason. The hope is that he’ll be the missing piece to their championship puzzle.
