It’s time for the last two games before the big one.
Get ready for a pair of regular season rematches in today’s NFC and AFC Conference Championship Games. The early game features NFC East rivals meeting in the playoffs for just the second time in their long history; the late game is now a nearly-perennial postseason matchup.
First up today is the NFC title game, which pits the East division champion Philadelphia Eagles against the #6-seeded Washington Commanders. These two teams split their season series, with Philly winning 26-18 in week 11 before the Commanders upset them 36-33 in week 16 — giving the Eagles their only loss since week 4.
As mentioned above, this will be just the second playoff game between these two teams, which have 181 regular-season meetings between them. That regular-season series is tight, with the Commanders holding an 89-86-6 lead. Washington also won that lone playoff game, beating the Eagles 20-6 in a 1990 Wild Card game before losing to the San Francisco 49ers.
There is much more recent playoff history in the late game, however, as the Buffalo Bills visit the Kansas City Chiefs. This will be the 7th postseason game between the two franchises in their history and the fourth in the last five — all won by the Chiefs. Last year’s Divisional Round game was the first road playoff game in Patrick Mahomes’ career, but it was the Chiefs defense that stepped up, allowing just 7 points to the Bills after halftime.
