The NFL is heading to Brazil for the first time ever this season, and now we officially know the matchup for the inaugural game in São Paulo.
The Philadelphia Eagles will take on the Green Bay Packers on Friday, Sept. 6, the league announced Wednesday morning. It will be the first game for the NFL in South America, and the first Friday night game on opening weekend for the league in 50 years.
Philadelphia had been announced a while ago as one of the teams for the NFL Brazil game, with rumors about Green Bay being their opponent picking up in recent days prior to this morning’s announcement.
“This landmark first international game in South America demonstrates the ongoing expansion of our global footprint,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said during Super Bowl Week in February. “Playing on Friday night of Week 1 is a unique way to highlight our international growth and ambitions.”

Eagles-Packers will be held at Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, which seats over 47,000 people. The home of Brazilian professional club SC Corinthians, the venue previously hosted matches during the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.
The two NFC franchises last played in 2022, when the Eagles earned a 40-33 win at Lincoln Financial Field. Both teams will be playing in their second international series game.
Philadelphia beat the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-18 at Wembley Stadium in London back in 2018, while the Packers lost 27-22 to the New York Giants at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium two years ago.
