It’s been about a month since Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur fired former defensive coordinator Joe Barry.
Barry’s unit struggled throughout the season and LaFleur decided that a change was the best course of action even though it was tough to do.
“There’s a lot of thought and deliberation that goes into that,” LaFleur said, via ProFootballTalk. “You guys know how I feel about Joe Barry. I’m so thankful for our time together. I’ve got so much respect for him as a man and as a coach, and what he was able to do for us.”
“Those are tough decisions, but I think as a head football coach, sometimes you’ve got to make some tough decisions in terms of what you think you need to do moving forward to put your team in the best possible position.”
Barry had been the Packers’ defensive coordinator for the past three seasons before he got let go. He ended up not being out of work for long since the Miami Dolphins hired him to be their linebackers coach and run-game coordinator.
LaFleur then replaced Barry with Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley. He’ll be hoping that Hafley can turn the defense around this upcoming season.
