Walker left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury
In his Monday press conference, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the Packers’ injury situation on the defensive side of the ball. According to LaFleur, linebacker Quay Walker — who left Sunday’s game with an ankle injury — is dealing with a “week-to-week” issue. LaFleur stated that they’ll “give him the week and see where he’s at.”
When Walker dropped out against the Seattle Seahawks, he was replaced as a middle linebacker by Eric Wilson, allowing Isaiah McDuffie and Edgerrin Cooper to remain in their positions as outside linebackers. If Walker is out this week against the New Orleans Saints, the team will likely deploy the same play on Monday Night Football.
At the slot position, LaFleur said that second-round rookie Javon Bullard is moving better around the facility, but that the team still needs to see how he responds in practice. Hopefully, this means that Bullard, who missed last week’s game with an ankle injury, can suit up for game prep.
Without Bullard, cornerback Keisean Nixon has moved from the outside cornerback position to the slot position. Neither of the Packers’ preferred outside cornerback starters, Nixon and Jaire Alexander, were able to play there against the Seahawks last week, because Alexander was also held out with a knee injury.
Hopefully, this week can bring some clarity to the healthy of the defensive backfield.
