Kyle Shanahan will look to derail the red-hot Jordan Love when the San Francisco 49ers host the Green Bay Packers in the NFC Divisional Round.
Love led the Packers to a 48-32 road upset over the Dallas Cowboys with 272 yards and three touchdowns on just 21 pass attempts. Shanahan is impressed with the 25-year-old quarterback’s progress.
Speaking to reporters Tuesday, Shanahad said Love has “come a long way” during his first season as Green Bay’s starter under head coach Matt LaFleur.
“He’s extremely consistent with what they’re asking him to do,” Shanahan said of Love. “Matt is very good at coaching the quarterback, and you can see that their quarterback is buying in and plays very well in their system and makes a lot of plays, has a big arm, and is a big dude, too.”

Shanahan knows well how LaFleur can help a quarterback. They were both on Washington’s staff — Shanahan as offensive coordinator and LaFleur as the quarterbacks coach — when Robert Griffin III took the league by storm as the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Under LaFleur’s tutelage, Love ended his first regular season with 4,159 passing yards, 31 passing touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He’s accounted for 12 touchdowns with no picks during an ongoing four-game winning streak.
Love will face another significant challenge when going into Levi’s Stadium as massive underdogs for the second straight week. The 49ers tied the Bears with an NFL-leading 22 interceptions while allowing the fourth-lowest opposing quarterback rating (79.6).
The Packers and 49ers will collide Saturday at 8:15 p.m. ET on FOX.
