Jon-Eric Sullivan could gets looks in Tennessee, too
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport has reported that the New York Jets “are expected to interview” Green Bay Packers vice president of player personnel Jon-Eric Sullivan for their general manager vacancy. Based on their titles, Sullivan is the third highest-ranking member of the Packers’ front office, only behind general manager Brian Gutekunst and executive vice president/director of football operations Russ Ball, known best as Green Bay’s cap guru.
Sullivan, along with director of football operations Milt Hendrickson, are often given time with the media after the Packers make draft choices.
Son of former NFL wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator Jerry Sullivan, Jon-Eric got his start as a scouting intern with the Packers in 2003. The next season, he began working with Green Bay’s football operations department before being promoted to a National Football Scouting representative for the team. National is the company that gives clubs watchlists and early grades for players going into their final season of college while also taking on the task of running the NFL Scouting Combine. With national, Sullivan was in charge of the Southwest region for the publication.
After his time with National, he was promoted to the Packers’ Central Plains scout and then later was given the Southeast from 2012-2015. In 2016, he was given the title of director of college scouting before being promoted to co-director of player personnel. 2022 was his first year under the vice president of player personnel title.
It’s worth noting here that the Tennessee Titans just fired their general manager, Ran Carthon. The man running the Titans’ new general manager search is Chad Brinker, the president of football operations for Tennessee who spent 13 years with the Packers before switching clubs. Don’t be surprised if Sullivan ends up being linked to the Titans, too, not just the Jets.
