The Green Bay Packers have all but clinched a playoff spot in the NFC. With just one win in the next three games, Green Bay will solidify its position as one of the 14 teams on the road to the Super Bowl. After defeating the Seattle Seahawks, the Packers have a 99.9% chance at playing in a 19th week. But what are the chances of the Packers missing the playoffs? What exactly has to happen for that 0.1% to come to fruition?
After The Packers Big Win In Seattle, Is It Even Possible For Green Bay To Miss The Playoffs?
Normally these types of articles focus on how a team can clinch the playoffs rather than miss out on them. While most Packers fans may not want to know the combination of circumstances it takes for the Packers to miss the playoffs, the ones who do can have their curiosity quenched. Here is what the Packers will have to undergo to miss the 2025 NFL Playoffs.
Step 1: Lose Out
The Packers need to lose the remainder of their games against the New Orleans Saints (5-9), Minnesota Vikings (12-2), and the Chicago Bears (4-10) to even be considered out of contention for the Wild Card round. The good new about this schedule is that Green Bay has not lost to a team with less than 12 wins this year and the Saints and Bears fall exceedingly below that threshold.
The Packers lost to the Vikings earlier this season after attempting to mount one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the sport, losing by just 2 points. It is safe to say that the Packers will need to play wildly different from the way they have been playing all season to be exempt from wins and fall to 10-7 on the year.
Step 2: Falcons Win Out
On top of Green Bay losing, the Atlanta Falcons will need to win out in the process. While it is a tall task for a team who has lost four straight, the Falcons have one of the easier remaining schedules of any team in the NFL as they face the New York Giants, Washington Commanders, and the Carolina Panthers to end the regular season.
The Commanders are the only team that poses a true threat to the possibility of a Falcons run, but winning that many games after being winless for over a month is unimaginable. If it is able to be done, Atlanta will make their way into the postseason with a 10-7 record and kick Green Bay to the curb.
Step 3: Buccaneers Win Two, Commanders Win One
If the Buccaneers do not win out, they can only afford to lose one more game against either the Cowboys, Panthers, or Saints. If they go 10-7, they will most likely take the 7th seed as the Falcons would be division champions. The Commanders would just need one more win against the Eagles or Cowboys to reach 10-7 as well. Both the Buccaneers and Commanders hold tiebreakers over the Packers, making them the odd one out in this scenario of the playoff picture.
In summary, here is what needs to happen each week for the Packers to miss the playoffs.
Week 16
Saints over Packers
Falcons over Giants
Commanders over Eagles
Buccaneers over Cowboys
Week 17
Vikings over Packers
Falcons over Commanders
Buccaneers over Panthers
Week 18
Bears over Packers
Falcons over Panthers
Commanders over Cowboys (only if Commanders lose in Week 16)
Buccaneers over Saints (only if Buccaneers go 1-1 in Week 16 and Week 17)
