The Green Bay Packers looked like a team that is not quite ready for prime time Friday night. In a sloppy loss to the Philadelphia Eagles the Packers new defense looked every bit as bad as the old defense. The Packers were also plagued by penalties, bad throws, dropped passes and a kicker who can’t kick. In other words it was a typical opening day for a Matt LaFleur coached team.
While the new Packers defense is a work-in-progress the early results were not good. They couldn’t stop the run or pass and committed crucial penalty after crucial penalty. Because everything is new I’ll give new DC Jeff Hafley a week or two to get accustomed to calling plays, but if it doesn’t improve this hire may be yet another failure by LaFleur. The Joe Barry hiring was a travesty and the Rich Bisaccia hiring is looking worse by the minute.
Hopefully Jordan Love’s injury is not serious and the Packers redeem themselves next week in Lambeau against the Colts. But first impression puts the Packers as Super Bowl pretender and not Super Bowl contender.
