A.J. Dillon, Green Bay Packers, Agree to Contract
With Aaron Rodgers gone, A.J. Dillon finished the final year of his rookie contract with Jordan Love under center. The running back returned to his usual role, playing second-fiddle to Aaron Jones. However, this was easily the least efficient season of his career, as the running back recorded just 613 yards and two touchdowns on 178 carries – an underwhelming 3.4 yards-per-carry. Despite Dillon’s inefficiency, the Packers had a strong season, making it to the NFC Divisional Round before falling to the San Francisco 49ers.
A.J. Dillon originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Selected by the Green Bay Packers, the Boston College product spent his rookie season in a backup role. Appearing in 11 games without making a start, Dillon finished his inaugural season with 242 rushing yards and one touchdown on 46 carries. The Packers made it to the NFC Championship Game before losing at home to Tom Brady’s Buccaneers.
Dillon earned a larger role during his second season in the league. Appearing in all 17 games while making two starts, the running back recorded 803 rushing yards and five touchdowns on 187 carries to go along with 34 receptions for 313 yards and two additional scores.
The Boston College product held a similar role in 2022, finishing the season with 770 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 186 carries. However, for the first time in his career, Dillon did not make it to the playoffs thanks to a Week 18 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Since signing his rookie contract, A.J. Dilon has appeared in 60 games while making 11 starts. While on the field, the former second-round pick has recorded 2,428 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 597 carries.
