The official 2024 Pro Bowl selections have been released and just three players will represent the Green Bay Packers. Yet, a pair of Packers offensive linemen stand out as players who could have and probably should have recognition as Pro Bowl selections this season alongside Josh Jacobs, Xavier McKinney, and Rashan Gary. Here are two Packers Pro Bowl snubs.
Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl List Missing Two Studs on the Offensive Line
When it comes to selecting players for the Pro Bowl, there are circumstances where certain players do not make the Pro Bowl simply because there are just not enough spots to fulfill the needs of every NFL fan. A player like Jayden Reed did not make the Pro Bowl because guys like Terry McLaurin, Justin Jefferson, Amon Ra St. Brown, and Ceedee Lamb simply had better seasons. Tucker Kraft was sensational, but not as sensational as guys like George Kittle and Trey McBride.
Then, there are circumstances where certain players are not selected because they were just outright overlooked. That is the case with two offensive linemen for the Green Bay Packers.
Zach Tom, OT
In over four months of play, right tackle Zach Tom has made a name for himself to everyone except those who kept him off consideration for the Pro Bowl. On Pro Football Focus, Tom ranked 5th best at tackle, 3rd in run block rate, and 12th in pass block rate, which are numbers that are hard to compete with as a whole.
Pro Bowl Selections, OT
In comparison with the tackles that made it over him in the NFC, Lane Johnson, Penei Sewell, and Tristan Wirfs, Tom ranked better overall than Johnson and Wirfs, significantly better in pass blocking than Sewell (42nd), and significantly better in run blocking than Wirfs (45th).
What makes Tom’s ability to run block and pass block consistently well even more impressive is his frame. Among other offensive tackles in the league, Tom is in the 14th percentile in height, 17th percentile in weight, and 21st percentile in wingspan.
While Tom may not have the physical advantages that are present in linemen like Sewell and Wirfs, he has performed even better in some facets of the game than both, mainly because of his unreal athleticism. With a 4.94 40-yard dash time and a 33-inch vertical leap, Tom ranks in the 90th percentile of tackles as well. This is the first year in which Tom has jumped on the scene as an elite presence on the Packers’ offensive line, which probably plays a factor in his failing to attain recognition as Pro Bowl talent early in his career.
Elgton Jenkins, OG
After making the Pro Bowl in 2020 and 2022, left guard Elgton Jenkins failed to make the guard list for this year, which consists of Chris Nordstrom, Tyler Smith, and Landon Dickerson. While Nordstrom is having a monstrous year, Dickerson and Smith have not done particularly great in any given category, but solid in everything.
On that note, Jenkins has the 2nd best pass block rate among guards in the NFL and has allowed just one sack all season while Dickerson has allowed five sacks and Smith has allowed two. While still listed as an alternate, it is upsetting that the success of Jenkins was overlooked due to the constraints of the voting system, often leveraging team success and popularity over individual performance.
