Wide receiver, defensive lineman, or cornerback? Those feel like the best bets for the Packers at #23.
Five weeks from today, we will be waking up and trying to get to know the Green Bay Packers’ first-round draft selection. Or at least that will be the case as long as the Packers don’t trade out of the first round of the draft that’s being held in their hometown.
With the bulk of free agency already well behind us and teams moving on to budget-friendly options, this week has been a good one to reassess team needs and start slotting players into mock drafts. In today’s curds we have three fairly big ones to mention, two of which find the Packers doing what they haven’t done in over 20 years: drafting that round-one wide receiver.
Matthew Golden and Emeka Egbuka are both intriguing players in different ways. Golden was a big-play threat at Texas this year, averaging 17 yards per catch. Meanwhile, Egbuka was a more consistent, steady producer for Ohio State, playing the possession role opposite freshman phenom Jeremiah Smith.
While this writer thinks that defensive tackle is actually the most likely position that the Packers draft, our other mock in today’s curds sees one of the top cornerbacks falling into the 20s, right in the Packers’ range to scoop him up.
It should be a fun few weeks of speculation and projections — at least for those who enjoy that sort of thing. Let’s get it well and truly underway.
