By this time last season WR Grant DuBose was trying to play catch up during training camp.
DuBose missed the majority of the off-season with a back injury.
But by the time training camp ended, the Packers gave the 2023 7th round pick a spot on the practice squad.
Coming into training camp in 2024, Grant was staring up at the WR depth chart.
With his back up against the wall though he has quietly had an impressive training camp so far.
Impressive Camp
Through 2 weeks of training camp DuBose has caught the eyes of a lot of people.
That includes players and coaches.
Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich said he like what he is seeing out of DuBose.
“He plays with good speed. He’s a big target, he’s got good hands and he’s a willing blocker, too, in the run game”
Furthermore DuBose performance has been so good that hes’ earn reps with the 1st team offense.
Quarterback Jordan Love even had some high praise for DuBose.
“He’s been playing really well (since) the first day of camp,” The starting QB said.
“I’m excited to see what he can keep doing as we get into preseason and going forward.”
Where does DuBose fit in?
The Packers have a full room at WR.
Presumably the the first 4 Wide Receiver spots have been taken.
Romeo Doubs, Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Dontayvion Wicks are locks to make it to the team.
Bo Melton, who started last season on the practice squad, is a front runner to make the team as well.
DuBose has a chance to make the roster.
But that depends on how many Wide Receivers the Packers keep.
If the Packers decide to keep six Wide Receivers, DuBose is a front runner to tab the final spot.
Battle for the WR final spot
Along with DuBose, Malik Heath and Samori Toure are battling for the final spot.
Heath made the roster last year as an un-drafted free agent.
Toure, a 2022 7th round pick, struggled last year with making big plays.
Heath poses the biggest threat to DuBose roster spot.
Heath had an impressive start last season.
But after Melton came off the practice, Heath reps went down.
He’s struggled a little during the first couple weeks of training camp.
But his size and physicality could give him on edge, if DuBose doesn’t capitalize on his opportunity.
Conclusion
Grant DuBose has a real chance of making the roster if he continues his impressive training camp.
If DuBose can put on the same performance during the preseason, the Packers have a hard decision coming to them.
While the practice squad is always an option, DuBose performance so far in camp proves he is worth a spot on the roster.
