Donald Trump played to the crowd during his speech at the Republican National Convention Thursday night.
At one point, Trump, who officially accepted the party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential election, shouted out the host city of Milwaukee and the delegates from the state of Wisconsin.
Wisconsin is a critical swing state in this year’s election, one that Trump won in 2016 and but lost four years ago. When complimenting the Wisconsin delegates, many of whom wore “cheeseheads” in the crowd, Trump predicted good things for the Green Bay Packers.
“And Green Bay is gonna have a good team this year, right?” They’re gonna have a good team,” Trump said. “They’re gonna have a good team. Most of the audience doesn’t like it, but it’s true. You’re going to have a very good team this year.”
Any Packers fans in attendance had to appreciate this from Trump, especially after Michigan Rep. John James tweaked the home crowd during his own speech earlier in the week.
“Good evening Wisconsin. Warmest regards from Detroit, home of the NFC North champion Detroit Lions,” James said.
The Lions did win the NFC North last year, their first division title in three decades, and reached the conference championship game. However, the Packers exceeded expectations in Jordan Love’s first season as starting quarterback, winning a playoff game and battling the San Francisco 49ers to the wire before bowing out.
Green Bay is receiving more hype entering 2024, and as long as Love and their defense play well, the Pack have a great chance to prove Trump’s prediction correct.
