Tyler Huntley could be Miami’s QB2 tonight
The Miami Dolphins will have a new backup quarterback option against the Green Bay Packers as they have activated Tyler Huntley, who might be best known for making a Pro Bowl in 2022 as Lamar Jackson’s backup in Baltimore, to the active roster. Huntley was previously placed on the injured reserve for a shoulder injury back in Week 7.
Huntley made three starts for the Dolphins in 2024 before his injury, all as a replacement to preferred starter Tua Tagovailoa. If Huntley isn’t the number two quarterback for Miami, it’ll be Skylar Thompson.
The Dolphins also placed pass-rusher Tyus Bower, who was already ruled out for the Thanksgiving game, on the injured reserve. This was the corresponding roster move made to promote Huntley.
Miami activated a long snapper, Zach Triner, from the practice squad today, too. The Dolphins didn’t roster a player at the position on their 53-man roster, as preferred long snapper Blake Ferguson is on the non-football injury list.
Previously, the Dolphins had signed Matt Overton to replace Ferguson, but he was released a few weeks ago. Triner has played 81 career NFL games, all with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He most recently played on November 4th, when his Buccaneers lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime. Fun fact: The Assumption University product actually was a member of the Packers’ roster during the 2017 and 2018 seasons.
