‘He’ll have his surgery soon, and should be back around Week 12’
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson’s father took to Twitter/X on Wednesday to clear up some information about the receiver’s injury sustained in the regular season finale against the Chicago Bears. According to Tazim Wajid Wajed, a former Packers player himself, Watson had a “simple ACL” tear. Below are his full comments.
He’ll have his surgery soon, and should be back around Week 12, with a normal rehab. There’s nothing outside of what’s typical with his injury. Simple ACL and minor cleanup. He’s just doing usual pre-surgery strengthening prehab to get ahead of any post-surgical atrophy! He remains in good spirits and ready to attack this with everything he’s got
Unfortunately, Watson returning “around Week 12” means the Packers will be without their field-stretching receiver for the majority of the 2025 regular season. How will Green Bay respond to that timeline? Will tight end Luke Musgrave, who has dealt with an injury history himself, be their new option as a field stretcher out of two-tight end looks? Will the team look to address the receiver position, especially considering that Watson — along with Romeo Doubs — is entering the final year of his rookie contract?
Only time will tell how the Packers’ front office will try to navigate this issue. Watson’s father’s statement officially confirms what we all suspected of his injury, meaning that there isn’t some Kingsley Enagbare-type of misdiagnosis this time around. Last year, Enagbare went down at the end of the season with what was believed to be a tear to one of the ligaments in his knee, but it wound up only being a sprain — unbeknownst to fans until Green Bay’s organized team activities began in the spring. Enagbare went on to play 17 games for the Packers in 2024 and started seven of them.
