Bears rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze is already endearing himself to the city of Chicago with his recent comments on the rival Packers.
While appearing on the “Talk 2 Me Show,” the ninth overall pick talked about his first day as a Bear. Saying: “First day hating the Packers, I already can’t stand them. Every time I see Green, I nearly puke.”
Odunze is preparing to help change the culture in Chicago — joining a team that’s made the playoffs just three times since the it’s Super Bowl loss to the Colts in 2006.
The University of Washington star knew he could’ve landed anywhere but admitted that he’s happy it was with the Bears.
“I definitely had the mindset to be happy wherever I went, but in the back of my mind [I knew] the Bears visit went tremendously well,” Odunze said, via the team’s official website.
“I came into this facility and the attitude and the effort that they put into my visit and into the conversations that we had was incredible. I knew when that phone call came in, it was from Illinois and that it was going to be the Bears, and I was super excited.”
The Bears selected Odunze eight picks after drafting 2022 Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams with the No. 1 pick; a connection fans in the Chi are hoping they’ll be able to watch for a long time.
