The Packers have a nice chunk of change to play with in free agency, if they want.
As our own Justis Mosqueda wrote yesterday, the NFL announced an agreed $279.2 million salary cap for the upcoming season.
After some napkin math to account for draft picks, practice squad, injured reserve, etc., Justis reckons the Packers actually have just a hair under $29 million in “effective cap space” to play with.
Keep in mind that “play with” also refers to re-signing existing Packers (paging Ted Thompson), but that’s a decent amount of ammunition relative to the last few years.
So now that we have a ballpark pocketbook number, we can set about doing what we do best in late February: wishcasting and wild speculation!
If you could instantly upgrade a position or replace an injured player, where would you start?
Wide receiver is a popular topic, as the Packers’ existing cadre underperformed in 2024 and Christian Watson is set to miss significant time in 2025.
Then there’s the defensive line, another underperforming group that could use a juice infusion.
Of course, there are also recent tea leaves about cornerback Jaire Alexander. Should the Packers be in the cornerback market?
Let us know your thoughts down below. There are no wrong answers; it’s not our money, after all.
