The Emmy Award winner is starring in an upcoming movie about the Packers called “Green and Gold”
Yep, you read that right: “Coach” will be flexing his vocal muscles this weekend at Lambeau Field. Emmy Award-winning actor, Craig T. Nelson is set to sing the national anthem ahead of the Green Bay Packers season finale on Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
Nelson is in Green Bay to promote his upcoming film, “Green and Gold” which was made in partnership with the Packers along with Culver’s as part of the Thank You Farmer’s Project.
The film, which appears to be set during the 90’s, is about a generational dairy farmer in Wisconsin who looks to save his struggling farm by wagering everything they have on the Packers to win the Super Bowl as his daughter tries to make a career as a musician. A story about quite literally betting the farm. You can watch the trailer on YouTube.
According to the Green Bay Press-Gazette, the film was originally titled “God Loves the Green Bay Packers” and was made by brothers Anders and Davin Lindwall, who grew up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The brothers share on their website that the film is their “heartfelt tribute to rural America’s strength and perseverance” and was shot in various locations around Wisconsin.
The independent film won the Jimmy Stewart Legacy Award and the Narrative Official Selection Audience Choice Award at the Heartland International Film Festival and was the Audience Award Winner for Narrative Feature at the Austin Film Festival. Nelson stars alongside Madison Lawlor, Brandon Sklenar, the late M. Emmet Walsh and Wisconsin comedian Charlie Berens.
“Green and Gold” releases in theaters on Jan. 31 and tickets can be purchased by heading to the film’s website.
