For the third time this pre-draft cycle, we dive into some potential options for the Green Bay Packers with the 2025 Packers NFL Draft Prospect Primer 3.0. Packers GM Brian Gutenkunst 2025 draft is going to be very important to the long term future of the team. Gutenkunst typically wants as many picks as possible, unfortunately in 2025 the team currently holds only 8 draft picks. The GM needs to be very careful with how he uses his resources. With needs at EDGE, DL, CB, T, and WR, the amount of picks at the Packers disposal will need to be used wisely.
WR – Matthew Golden – Texas
- Matthew Golden is an absolute burner who hits top gear in a flash. Defenders get caught flat-footed against his vertical routes and learn a painful lesson about respecting his speed. He shows a high level of understanding his route tempo, masterfully changing speeds to set up breaks and create separation against man and zone coverage. Golden can contort his body and adjust to off-target throws while maintaining control through contact.
- An explosive playmaker after the catch with the vision and acceleration of a kick returner. Golden has the versatility to play all three receiver spots.
T – Josh Simmons – Ohio State
Josh Simmons shows quickness off the ball, strength at the point of attack, and the ability to cave in the interior of an offensive line single handily. He shows the feet to project as an excellent pass blocker in the NFL. Containing exceptional lateral mobility allows him to mirror speed rushers and execute backside cutoff blocks with rare fluidity for someone of his stature. Simmons possesses devastating punch power combined with independent hand usage. Consistently Simmons lands first meaningful contact slowing down opposing pass rushers.
T – Josh Conerly Jr. – Oregon
Josh Conerly was a Third-team Associated Press All-American, first-team All-Big Ten in college. At Oregon he was a finalist for the Joe Moore Award (nation’s top OL) after starting all 14 games at LT. He showed vast improvement as the 2024 season progressed. Conerly Jr. movements are composed and relatively athletic, accelerating hard into down blocks. A fluid mover who can intersect and steer smaller targets away from the ball on pulls and screens. In addition he flashes ability to strike through rush moves, press and keep rushers at his fingertips.
OL – Greg Zabel – North Dakota State
- Greg Zabel displays exceptional leverage despite his 6’6″ frame. Consistently winning the pad level battle and creating displacement in the run game with powerful hip drive.
- Zabel is natural combo blocker who excels at timing releases to the second level. Consistently showing urgent footwork and proper angles to wall off opposing linebackers.
- He brings a heavyweight fighter’s mentality to pass protection, anchoring with a stiff punch and showing impressive recovery skills against counter moves.
- At North Dakota State he displayed elite processing speed which allows him to pick up stunts and blitzes seamlessly.
