Sarah Franklin and Charlie Fuerbringer earned Big Ten honors for the second straight week.
Wisconsin Badgers once again earned some conference recognition from the Big Ten after a sweep during its West Coast swing.
Senior Sarah Franklin and freshman setter Charlie Fuerbringer once again were given weekly awards from the conference — the second straight week for the pair. Franklin was once again named Big Ten Player of the Week while Fuerbringer was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.
Franklin posted 4.57 kills per set in wins against USC and UCLA, hitting double-digit kills in each match while averaging .505 across both matches. This season, Franklin has averaged 4.47 kills per set while hitting .308, That’s a higher kill per set rate than last season when she was named the AVCA Player of the Year. She’s also improved at other aspects of her all-around game, especially in serve receive, highlighting just how remarkable her performances have been for UW.
Fuerbringer earned Big Ten Setter of the Week last weekend, so now she is considered the top freshman in the league. In a homecoming trip for the Southern California native, Fuerbringer averaged 11.71 assists per set and 2.43 digs per set. She also tallied two aces in each contest while quarterbacking the Badgers’ offense to .333 hitting against the Trojans and .402 hitting against the Bruins.
Wisconsin will be hoping their stellar play can continue with a huge week upcoming. The Badgers will host the No. 16 Minnesota Golden Gophers (10-6 Big Ten, 17-9 overall) on Wednesday night at 8 p.m. before traveling to face the No. 2 Nebraska Cornhuskers (16-0, 26-1) on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Both those matches will be on the Big Ten Network.
