UW adds their third attacking transfer of the offseason, bringing in an All-American caliber player.
Wisconsin’s offseason revamp continues, with a huge commitment secured from the portal.
Outside hitter Mimi Colyer announced she would play for the Wisconsin Badgers for the upcoming season. Colyer entered the transfer portal this month after former Oregon head coach Matt Ulmer left the program to take over the Kansas Jayhawks.
The former Oregon Duck was named a Second Team All-American by the AVCA this past season and was an All-Big Ten First team selection. She’ll have one year of eligibility left.
The 6-foot-3 outside hitter led Oregon with 3.97 kills per set and was dangerous from the service line as well, posting 39 aces on the season. Against Wisconsin this season, Colyer had 16 kills, nine digs, and four blocks, highlighting the fact that she can potentially star in all six rotations.
Colyer’s addition means the Badgers have picked up three attacking transfers this off-season as Wisconsin reloads from the departure of a senior-laden front line.
All five of UW’s graduating seniors who were attackers are now playing professionally, and now head coach Kelly Sheffield has added more chess pieces up front with sophomore Grace Egan and opposite Grace Lopez.
Along with those transfer pieces coming in, UW brings in a highly touted freshman class that includes three attackers — setter/opposite Addy Horner, middle blocker Natalie Wardlow, and outside hitter Madison Quest — who were ranked in the top 40 in the country.
