The former Miami Hurricane had 3.54 kills per set last season and will have two years of eligibility left.
As UW looks to reshape its attack, the Wisconsin Badgers secured another commitment with an intriguing, potentially six-rotation player.
Wisconsin secured the commitment of transfer opposite hitter Grace Lopez from the Miami Hurricanes. The 6-foot-1 opposite hitter was an honorable mention AVCA All-American both this year and last year and earned All-ACC Second Team honors this past season. She’ll have two years of eligibility left.
Lopez, a native of Aguada, Puerto Rico, is an intriguing player as a left-handed swinger who will be perfect on the opposite pin. The former ‘Cane has experience playing in Madison — as a freshman, she had 15 kills against Wisconsin in the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2023.
Lopez had the second-highest kills per set rate for Miami this season, with 3.54 kills per set, and had the third-highest digs per set of any Hurricane, with 2.29 in the season. She also added 32 aces and 80 blocks, highlighting that she can be a six-rotation player for Wisconsin.
Lopez also saved some of her best matches for the top competition. Her season-high in kills came against the Stanford Cardinal, where she had 27 kills to help Miami beat Stanford in five sets.
Her commitment adds another key piece to attack with the recent pledge from former Ohio State outside hitter Grace Egan. With the Badgers losing a lot of attacking pieces to graduation, Lopez will add some high level experience and a unique skillset as a left-handed attacker.
