Wisconsin took a 3-0 lead on its opening drive against Alabama Saturday but not before suffering a major personnel loss.
Quarterback Tyler Van Dyke went down with an apparent knee injury after getting hurt on a scramble. Van Dyke was tackled near the Wisconsin sideline and stayed down holding his right knee.
Replay seems to indicate that his knee buckled before he was brought to the ground, which, if true, is not a great sign.
Van Dyke was helped to the sideline and eventually carted to the Badgers’ locker room.
While being taken away on the cart, the former Miami signal caller had his head buried in his hands and appeared visibly upset.
Van Dyke, who was 5-for-5 for 16 yards with nine yards rushing on his only scramble before getting hurt, was replaced by Braedyn Locke. Locke went 1-for-3 as the Wisconsin drive stalled before Nathanial Vakos buried a 53-yard field goal to put the home team ahead 3-0.
Van Dyke came into today 38-of-63 passing for 406 yards and one touchdown on the season. He’s in his first year with the Badgers after spending four seasons at Miami.
Van Dyke was the Hurricanes’ primary starter from 2021-23, throwing for 7,468 yards, 54 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. We will provide you with any updates on his status as they become available.
Currently, Wisconsin still leads Alabama 3-0 on FOX. The Crimson Tide had a chance to tie the game on their first possession but missed a field goal.
