How did the Badgers fare in their exhibition game on Wednesday?
The Wisconsin Badgers beat the UW-River Falls Falcons 78-62 on Wednesday in an exhibition game, marking their final action before the season opener next Monday against Holy Cross.
It was a game where Wisconsin admittedly looked out of sorts at times before settling in, with their peak being seen in the second half when they went on a 24-5 run over a 7.5-minute stretch to gain a 20-point lead.
Here’s the full box score from Wisconsin’s 78-62 win over UW-River Falls on Wednesday.
As seen in the box score, John Tonje led the way for Wisconsin with 15 points, while Steven Crowl had 14 of his own in the win.
It was an uncharacteristic day for Wisconsin’s guards, as Tonje, John Blackwell, and Max Klesmit combined to shoot just 4/25 from the field, including 2/15 from three in a rough performance for the trio.
But, they did get a number of open looks, both from deep and at the rim, which limits the worry level heading into the season.
Elsewhere, forward Carter Gilmore had three three-pointers, showing off his much-improved jump shot as he was much more willing to take the open shots on Wednesday.
Off the bench, head coach Greg Gard turned to Kamari McGee as his sixth man, while relying mainly on Gilmore and wing Jack Janicki as the other main reserves in the second half when the game was close.
Wisconsin’s depth was seen in this game, as the team played 12 players in the first half, but that was cut down to just eight primary rotational pieces in the second half, so it’ll be intriguing to see how the rotation fills out as the season begins.
