Bowl eligibility is on the line. Can the Badgers come out on top?
Fresh off a 44-25 loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Wisconsin Badgers are headed back home to wrap up their season, facing off against the Minnesota Golden Gophers, with kickoff slated for 11:00 a.m. at Camp Randall Stadium.
The Badgers absolutely collapsed last Saturday defensively, allowing scores on each of Nebraska’s first three possessions, while really struggling to end the first half, giving up back-to-back scores within a minute. From there, they could never really bounce back, despite a solid performance from quarterback Braedyn Locke, leading to the ugly loss.
With that, Wisconsin stands at 5-6 heading into Friday’s rivalry game against Minnesota, with the Axe Trophy on the line. The Badgers were able to re-claim it on opposing turf last year, and it’ll be even more important this week because a bowl game is still up for grabs this weekend.
The Badgers, seen as 1-point underdogs, are looking for their sixth win, coming in on a four-game losing streak, while Minnesota, standing at 6-5, has dropped two in a row and is hoping to turn things around.
Wisconsin has numerous players questionable on Friday, as wide receiver Will Pauling, linebackers Jake Chaney and Jaheim Thomas, tight end Tucker Ashcraft, and defensive linemen James Thompson Jr. and Elijah Hills are all questionable for the game.
However, star safety Hunter Wohler has been cleared and is good to go without any designation on Friday.
