The Badgers saw two of their commits drafted last week in the 2024 NHL Draft.
The Wisconsin Badgers had a busy 2023 NHL Draft, as four of their players were taken a year ago: Charlie Stramel, Brady Cleveland, William Whitelaw, and Zach Schulz.
It was a bit of a different look in the 2024 NHL Draft, but Wisconsin still saw two of their recruits taken within nine picks of each other in the fourth round.
Defenseman Luke Osburn, one of the youngest players in the draft, was taken in the fourth round with the No. 108 pick by the Buffalo Sabres. He’s projected to join the Badgers in the 2026-27 season.
Then, nine picks later, left wing Blake Montgomery was taken by the Ottawa Senators with the No. 117 pick. The 6’4 wing had 43 points (22 goals, 21 assists) in 58 games for the Lincoln Stars in the USHL this past year, and is expected to join the Badgers next year.
The Badgers have a different outlook heading into the 2024 season after a good amount of turnover occurred this offseason, but are looking to make another jump in Year 2 under Mike Hastings after an impressive first season for the head coach.
In other hockey news, a pair of lady Badgers were selected in the 2024 Professional Women’s Hockey League Draft earlier this month.
Britta Curl, the two-time captain for the Badgers, was taken No. 9 overall by Minnesota, while Anna Wilgren was taken in the fifth round by Montreal.
