The season isn’t over, but the offseason work has begun for Wisconsin.
The Wisconsin Badgers are firmly in the NCAA Tournament, taking on the BYU Cougars in the Round of 32, with tip-off set for 6:45 p.m. on Saturday.
But, in today’s world of college basketball, teams always have to start looking ahead. And that’s exactly what Wisconsin is doing. While the transfer portal only officially opens on March 24th, players have already started to announce their intentions to enter the portal and the Badgers have started showing interest.
The Badgers have reached out to UMass Lowell transfer Quinton Mincey since he entered the portal on March 20th, according to The Portal Report.
Mincey, a fifth-year senior in 2025, is applying for a hardship waiver to play one final season of college basketball, having spent the last four seasons at UMass Lowell.
Standing 6’6, 205 pounds, Mincey averaged 16.8 points and 6.3 rebounds per game this season, shooting 48.6 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from deep while playing 35.9 minutes a contest.
Mincey has averaged double digits in each of the last two seasons, scoring 14.1 points per game in 2023-24 on good efficiency as well while almost exclusively coming off the bench.
In addition to Wisconsin, Mincey has heard from Charlotte, George Mason, and George Washington.
He’s not the only player that the Badgers have reportedly shown interest in thus far.
According to League Ready, Milwaukee forward Jamichael Stillwell has also heard from the Badgers after a season where he averaged 13 points and 10.7 rebounds, shooting 46.8 percent from the field and 28.6 percent from deep.
Standing 6’8, 225 pounds, the forward has heard from a long list of teams including Butler, BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado, Dayton, DePaul, Florida State, George Washington, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas State, LMU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, New Mexico, Penn State, Pitt, Seton Hall, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCF, VCU, and Wichita St.
A majority of transfer portal entries will be publicized in the coming days as players finish up their seasons, but Wisconsin is already starting to be active in the portal, planning ahead for next season.
That’ll be important because the Badgers are losing six seniors: John Tonje, Max Klesmit, Steven Crowl, Kamari McGee, Carter Gilmore, and Markus Illver. That’s quite a few scholarship spots to fill, as Wisconsin is only bringing in three freshmen in their 2025 class.
So, it’ll be a busy and important offseason in the transfer portal as Wisconsin looks to reload.
