Can the Badgers keep up the momentum in the NCAA tournament in their final home game of the year?
Fresh off a 3-0 win over the Fairfield Stags to kick off the NCAA Tournament, the No. 2-seeded Wisconsin Badgers are scheduled to face off against the No. 7-seeded Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets on Friday, looking to move forward to the next round.
The Badgers had a swift victory over Fairfield, winning 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 in a quick sweep at the UW Field House, with Anna Smrek leading the way with 14 kills and a .684 hitting percentage.
It was a strong team effort from the Badgers, as they had their fair share of aces, blocks, and runs to pull off the sweep in the first round, benefitting from the exciting environment at the UW Field House.
Moving on, they face a Georgia Tech team that has gone 21-9 during the regular season, including 12-8 in conference play. They entered the tournament on a four-match losing streak, but were able to snap that on Thursday with a 3-2 win over the Tennessee Volunteers to move on and face the Badgers in round two.
Thursday’s match was a back-and-forth effort that went well past the expected time, as Georgia won 25-18, 13-25, 32-30, 26-28, 15-12 to pull off the 3-2 victory.
The Badgers will be playing their last match at the UW Field House on Friday, as they’ll move to another location in the next round, should they advance. Can they send off the fans on a good note with a win over Georgia Tech on Friday?
