The Badgers showed up defensively in a big way en route to a blowout on Sunday.
The No. 18 Wisconsin Badgers returned to the win column on Sunday, beating the Nebraska Cornhuskers 83-55 to improve to 16-4 on the season, including 6-3 in conference play.
It was a strong effort from the beginning for the Badgers, who never trailed in the blowout win, getting off to an early 19-2 lead thanks to a barrage of threes. From there, after getting some resistance from Nebraska to cut the lead to four, Wisconsin was comfortable the rest of the way, finishing the half with a 16-2 run before starting the second half with an 18-7 run.
Offensively, the Badgers dominated from distance, shooting 17/37 from three on the day, as John Tonje and John Blackwell each had four plus triples, while four others had multiple threes in the win.
Defensively, Wisconsin had one of their better performances of the season, holding Nebraska to just 33.9 percent from the field, while forcing 12 turnovers and keeping the Cornhuskers’ top scorers from getting going.
With the win, Wisconsin goes to 16-4 on the season and will look to keep their spot in the AP Top 25 when the new rankings come out Monday.
Next week, they’ll head on the road and face the Maryland Terrapins and Northwestern Wildcats as they look to rebuild a winning streak going into February.
